President’s Message

LAOH Worcester County, Division 1 Ocean City, MD recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. Our 68 dues paying members support numerous local charities that provide services to the poor, sick, and homeless.

We have two major fundraisers each year which we manage and staff; our annual card party in October and the Ocean City Sunfest in September.  At our annual Baby Shower, the unwrapped gifts provided by our members are donated to Worcester County G.O.L.D. (Giving Other Lives Dignity), one of our charities, to assist them in helping local mothers. Additionally, we support Worcester G.O.L.D. during the holidays, by providing Easter baskets for needy children as well as holiday meals and gift cards at Thanksgiving and Christmas for families in need.  Throughout the year, we serve the homeless at the Joseph House Crisis Center in Salisbury and provide clothing and non-perishable food items to the Seton Center in Queen Anne’s County.

We remember our military troops throughout the year by providing postage to send personal items packed as part of the “We Care” program at the Harley Davidson Store.  At our annual Christmas luncheon, Santa joins us to help carry our donated gifts to the Sheriff’s car and police vans to be given to needy children at a local Christmas party. We also support youth activities at local parishes and award yearly college scholarships to deserving students from the local high schools.

Our Irish Catholic heritage and tradition is something we carry with us through the year.  Every February, our members gather for Mass to celebrate St Brigid’s Feast Day with breakfast afterward at a local restaurant. On St. Patrick’s Day, we join the K of C and members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) for their annual Mass and breakfast. In June, we attend a Day of Reflection, followed by a family picnic, with members of the AOH. As summer comes to a close, we celebrate Our Lady of Knock’s feast Day by attending Mass together and sharing a meal.

The Ocean City LAOH  meets at 10 AM on the third Tuesday of the month every month at St. Andrew’s Center, 14401 Sinepuxent Avenue in Ocean City.
